If You Paid For Tax Preparation Services Provided To You At One Of The New York City Jackson Hewitt Offices From January 1, 2005 Through December 31, 2006, You May Be A “Class Member” And Are Entitled To Notice Of This Class Action Settlement.
Summary of the Class Action Lawsuit
A settlement has been reached involving Jackson Hewitt Tax Service Inc. and certain of its affiliates and franchisees. The lawsuit claims that misleading and undisclosed fees were charged to customers for the preparation of federal or New York State tax returns in Jackson Hewitt offices owned or operated by the Sobti Defendants (Map Computax NY, Inc., Mandeep Sobti, and Anjeet Sobti) located in New York City (each a “Sobti Office”) during the period January 1, 2005 through December 31, 2006. Defendants have denied any alleged wrongdoing and dispute each of the allegations.
What Does the Settlement Provide?
Pursuant to the terms of the Settlement, the Sobti Defendants have agreed to follow certain procedures and practices, which Plaintiffs believe largely address the conduct Plaintiffs claimed was unlawful in their lawsuit. Additionally, a $50 discount will be available to all Class Members who use the tax preparation services of a Sobti Office in the manner detailed in the Notice. In exchange, Plaintiffs will dismiss the Action and the Class, including Plaintiffs, will release any and all claims they may have stemming from the acts and events that gave rise to this litigation against the Defendants and other related persons, entities and their representatives (the “Released Persons”).

Your Legal Rights And Options In The Settlement
Your legal rights are affected whether you act or don’t act, so please read the information below carefully.
Ask to be Excluded
Get no discount. The only option that allows you to sue the Sobti Defendants over the claims resolved by this Settlement at your own expense although, as stated below, the prospects for any recovery would be severely limited because:
(i) of a Bankruptcy Court Order prohibiting the recovery of any judgment against the Jackson Hewitt Defendants; and
(ii) the Sobti Defendants’ limited resources.
Write to the Court about why you don’t like the Settlement or any other matter relating to it.
Get a $50 discount off tax preparation services rendered for you at a Sobti Office subject to the terms of the Settlement. The only option that requires no work and no expense to you. Give up rights to sue the Sobti Defendants for the wrongs complained of in the Action.
